Developing the perfect sunscreen
Please read my published article below on my journey to help young athletes protect themselves from the sun.
The problem of sunscreens when it comes to young athletes is that there are only suitable solutions for people who have lighter skin such as a Fitzpatrick scale of one to three. However, the problem arises is for athletes who have darker skin tones. It is highly recommended that people with darker skin who spend tremendous time in the sun exercising should be wearing a high SPF. I came to the realization that chemical sunscreens are not suitable for athletes as they run into the eye and tend to sting. So this leaves physical block sunscreens like zinc oxide as the suitable solution. However, in my research, I found that there were no thin, disappearing, zinc oxide, sunscreens that would be well suited for darker skin tones, and not leave a white cast. So this led me onto my journey to develop the perfect SPF for people of color who are athletes.
